Between October and December 2025, our Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) carried out 22 unannounced visits to Bedfordshire Police custody suites to check on the welfare, rights and treatment of people detained in Luton and Kempston.
đź“Š 137 detainees were in custody.
🙌 100 of those were spoken to or observed by ICVs, helping ensure their rights, welfare and wellbeing were being properly safeguarded.
🎖️ Behind this work are 21 dedicated volunteers from our local communities, giving their time to promote transparency and public confidence in policing.
And we're growing — with new recruits going through vetting and more interviews planned for 2026, we’re working to build a panel that reflects the diverse communities of Bedfordshire.

ICV Bulletins Updates are sent to Independent Custody Visitors in Bedfordshire on a quarterly basis which include information on the scheme, the office and any important information that has been disseminated nationally by the Independent Custody Visiting Association (ICVA).
