955 - Whipsnade

Our community policing teams are dedicated to proactively tackling issues that matter most to our communities and address the core root of a problem, finding a long term solution. Split across local hubs, as well as an airport community team and the Community Enforcement team, officers have a visible presence in our communities engaging with the local public and prioritising activity based on the needs of the local people.

Partnership working is the key to community policing success and teams work closely with other organisations to maintain good networks and monitor community needs, working together to fully understand a problem and tailor the response to get the best results.

Local Priority Issues

Priority Action taken

Slip End- Vehicle crime
We are aware of the recent concerns and increase in vehicle crime in the village of Slip End. Bedfordshire Police are actively working in partnership with the local council and utilising CCTV to deter and identify offenders.
We are targeting known suspects and will continue to take enforcement action where appropriate. In addition, we will be offering crime prevention advice to residents and holding planned engagement events in the area, which will be advertised shortly.
Your safety and peace of mind remain a priority, and we encourage residents to report any suspicious activity.

Issued 05 January 2026

We encourage members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity and not to leave valuables inside vehicles. We also advise car owners to hide keys and utilise car key signal blocking containers/holders so suspects cannot get into your vehicle. Utilise steering wheel locks if appropriate and make sure that during the winter months you do not leave you vehicle running and unattended when de-icing the vehicle. A lot of car thefts can be opportunistic. If you have any concerns or queries please contact your local community police officer.

Speeding vehicles - Woodside Link - Houghton Regis - There is an increase in reports of organised car meets which are then causing numerous traffic and noise issues. Large groups of people congregate in their vehicle's to show of the vehicle's capability including speeding amongst other ASB issues.
We are working hard with partner agencies and with help from members of the public to find out where the car meets are taking place so we can put powers in place to prevent the car meets. Officers are working tirelessly reviewing CCTV to take action against offenders and investigations are on-going.

Issued 24 October 2025

We will obtain details of vehicle's involved and issue the necessary sanction and seize vehicles where the powers allow. This will be challenging as this will have to be dealt with slow time due to the volume of vehicles involved. CCTV will need to be collated & reviewed by officers. Contact will then be made with the vehicle owners and deal where powers allow. We have issued numerous section 59 warnings, which if breached vehicles can be seized by police. We have been working in partnership with Central Bedfordshire council CCTV team who have directed police to locations where cars are congregating and will provide us with the required CCTV to take further action against offenders.

Speeding Vehicles - Cemetery Road, Houghton Regis
There has been an increase in reports of car meets with the Houghton Regis area and vehicles are congregating in large groups and racing their vehicles to show of their capability which cause a lot of issues for other road users & local residents.

Issued 02 October 2025

Operational Enforcement Strategy:
Due to the volume of vehicles involved in organised car meets on Cemetery Road, Houghton Regis, immediate intervention is often impractical. Where possible, officers will attend meets to assess risk and gather intelligence. However, enforcement will primarily be conducted in slow time through retrospective investigation. CCTV footage will be obtained from council-operated systems to identify vehicles involved. Registrations will be cross-referenced, and appropriate enforcement action will be taken against registered keepers, including warning letters, Section 59 notices, or referrals for prosecution where applicable. This approach allows for targeted sanctions while minimising risk to officers and the public during live events.
