861 - Silsoe

Our community policing teams are dedicated to proactively tackling issues that matter most to our communities and address the core root of a problem, finding a long term solution. Split across local hubs, as well as an airport community team and the Community Enforcement team, officers have a visible presence in our communities engaging with the local public and prioritising activity based on the needs of the local people.

Partnership working is the key to community policing success and teams work closely with other organisations to maintain good networks and monitor community needs, working together to fully understand a problem and tailor the response to get the best results.

Priority Action taken

Car Meets, Lyall Court, Flitwick

Regular unlicensed car meets are occurring at this location set up by specific organisers

Issued 08 October 2025

This PSP is currently being managed by the PC and PCSO of area 1. It is in relation to unlicensed car meets whereby various vehicles attend Lyall Court, Flitwick and act in an anti-social manner.
Officers have submitted a comprehensive SARA document detailing the issues and the impact it is having on the local residents and businesses.
Officers have engaged with the public and gathered intelligence which has been submitted. HVP has been conducted as well as dispersal orders put in place during relevant times.
There are regular updates from the PCSO in relation to action taken. There are also detailed updates of the ongoing issues in the are.
Local businesses and residents have been contacted and liaised with via social media, letter drops and face to face meetings.
The council and highways agency have also been contacted about their role in disrupting these events and what is expected of them.
SIG markers have been placed on all local businesses and the Special Constabulary have also been briefed on the ongoing issues and are defaulting to this area. There is a local Instagram page which organise the meets. A bid has been submitted for a dedicated researcher to monitor the Instagram page and liaise with neighbouring forces to share intel.
Consideration has been given to the use of mobile camera deployment from the council. Street watch are to be made aware and encouraged to default to this area during their patrols as are speed watch. Officers have considered the use of CPNW's and S59 warnings. They are still reviewing footage to see if cars or drivers can be identified for this to happen. At this time they have not been able to due to the poor quality, which is why mobile camera deployment is being considered.
Moving forward I would like the officers to arrange a meeting with all local businesses that are being affected by the car meets which should also include highways and council. The land is privately owned but to get to it vehicles need to cross council owned land. If the businesses and highways can make the area not viable for car meets to be held this will permanently resolve the issue but this will be at a financial cost, which is why it has been slow to materialise. Officers have discussed the use of barriers and gates as well as speed bumps, however consideration has to be given to the legitimate users of the industrial estate and how this would impact them.
CPNW's and S59 are low cost but time consuming and are more of a temporary deterrent not a permanent fix.
The car meets are being arranged at Lyall Court due to its suitability as a location and the environment around it.
