Our community policing teams are dedicated to proactively tackling issues that matter most to our communities and address the core root of a problem, finding a long term solution. Split across local hubs, as well as an airport community team and the Community Enforcement team, officers have a visible presence in our communities engaging with the local public and prioritising activity based on the needs of the local people.

Partnership working is the key to community policing success and teams work closely with other organisations to maintain good networks and monitor community needs, working together to fully understand a problem and tailor the response to get the best results.

Issued 16 January 2026	Shoplifting has been identified as a key priority in the Houghton Regis area following an increase in reports over the past three months. In response, we will be working closely with those affected to help reduce incidents and increase confidence within the community. Daily high-visibility patrols will be carried out in hotspot locations to deter offenders and provide reassurance to local businesses. Officers will liaise with shop staff to ensure their radios are fully operational so that communication between retailers and police remains effective and immediate. We will also make local shopkeepers aware of individuals who are known to be involved in shoplifting, helping them to better safeguard their premises. In addition to overt patrols, there is potential for plain‑clothes operations to take place where appropriate to identify and target prolific offenders. Actioned 17 April 2026
